Season's Greetings

Every year seems to speed by so quickly until by its end, we've realized that we haven't taken the time to thank our special friends for helping make it a success. Be assured that each one us here at the Beran Law Office, the Veteran's Advocacy Group, and the separate law offices of Richard Mahlin, Calvin Hansen and Kurt Leffler are thankful for you and your business.

Jan . . . "May God bless you financially, socially, politically, in your relationships and with good health in the new year."
Cathleen . . . "Wishing you the best this Christmas and New Year"
Orville . . . "Happy Holidays"
Carrie . . . "May God bless you and your family this Christmas and grant you peace and happiness in the New Year."
Richard . . . "Happy Holidays"
Calvin . . . "Happy Holidays"
Kurt . . . "God, in the new year, please help me become...
Kinder to my family and friends
Generous to those in need
Less judgmental of others
Gentler to those who would be my enemies
Forgiving of those who have wronged me
More mindful and appreciative of my blessings
A better man or woman than I was yesterday
An example of all things good and proper.
"

A note from Jan:
The year of 2005 breezed by so fast, it seems that those cases we closed in the first quarter we just finished. Although we've been in our new offices (5635 O Street, Suite 101) for over a year already, I am still unpacking (of course nobody is surprised by that). Our new offices don't have places for all my collections, but I'm gradually finding suitable corners for some of my things (you can see part of my Coke and die cast truck collection in my photo). Although I still miss McArthur Park, the Taylor building is rapidly becoming my office home. One of my clients built some walls for us to give Orville Brown and I actual offices. Unfortunately, I'm still in the process of moving into the office, but expect to have that finished before the one year anniversary of the completion.
Amidst all that confusion I also helped clients evict over 600 people, recover rent and property damage, close over $6 Million of real estate transactions, sell their businesses, form profit and non-profit corporations, adopt children, resolve lot line disputes, recover losses from automobile accidents and numerous other matters.
In addition to handling your legal issues and questions, I spent numerous hours preparing for presentations for the Nebraska Continuing Legal Education Real Estate Seminar (the materials I presented update the NCLE's Real Estate Practice Manual, known as the "Red Book" among Nebraska real estate lawyers, the Nebraska Chapter of the National Association of Housing & Redevelopment Officials, Property Management Committee of the Lincoln Board of Realtors and the Real Estate Owners and Managers Association (REOMA). In addition, 2005 marked the 6th year that I have been teaching the Real Estate Principles class at the University of Nebraska as a guest lecturer. The past two semesters, I've had more than 100 students in my class.
Carrie continues to be invaluable in my practice. While managing the paperwork for over 600 evictions this past year, she takes your calls and helps keep me organized and on time for court. Her family experienced some challenges this year with the total remodeling of their home due to a fire, but they've come through that experience and are looking forward to breaking in their new appliances and cupboards.
Cathleen is our receptionist and administrative assistant. Although her background is about as far from law as you can get, well, maybe the theatre is not that far from law, she fits in well, and was able to make the switch without any difficulty.
Richard Mahlin joined my office sharing arrangement in 1999. Richard is a very able attorney with years of experience handling criminal matters in the City Prosecutor's office, now working the other side. He recently expanded his practice to include veterans and social security claims. I'm looking forward to continued association, please call him (466-0411) to assist you when you get in trouble (of course I know none of you get in trouble).
Calvin Hansen has been with us for three years. Handling criminal and civil trial and appellate matters in both state and federal court Calvin has helped many of you with matters beyond my experience. Calvin worked the Attorney General's office before starting his solo practice of law. Call Calvin (466-2744) if you need assistance in with federal or state criminal or civil matters.
Kurt Leffler is the newest attorney in our legal group joining us in the fall of 2004. He brings to our office experience in administrative law and has been handling criminal and civil trial and appellate matters, government law (veterans, social security, and unemployment) as well as juvenile, domestic and guardianships. Call Kurt on our joint line (488-4300)
Orville Brown is celebrating his twentieth year of assisting veterans with their claims before the Veterans Administration. Working under the supervision of Richard Mahlin and Antonio Bendazu, Orville can help you negotiate the maze of veteran's benefits (489-6005).
The law offices of Jan E. Beran, Richard Mahlin, Calvin Hansen and Kurt Leffler and the Veterans Advocacy Group (Orville Brown, Richard Mahlin and Antonio Bendazu) share offices at 5635 O Street, Suite 101, Lincoln, Nebraska. Our offices are independently owned and operated and we do not share information regarding our files unless you have been informed of the same.
