Update on LB456 The hearing for LB456 (the lower security deposit measure) was held on March 6 in front of the Judiciary Committee. Senator Brashear opened the hearing announcing that there were not enough votes in the committee to send it to the floor and that it would probably die in committee. With that he encouraged the landlord packed room limit the testimony on the bill. Only one person the young lawyer who drafted the bill, testified in favor. Thanks to those who attended and those that spoke opposing the bill. The bill's sponsor, Senator D. Pedersen in his remarks read by his aide, said that he intends for this bill to "open the dialoge" between landlords and tenants to make needed changes to the Landlord Tenant Act.

Comment on LB453. Expect a 7% increase in your legal billings. Under this bill, legal fees would be subject to sales taxes. Keep a watch on the status. Read the bill.

Comment about LB456. The 2003 legislature has convened and with it a new round of attacks against landlords. Read my letter to landlords. Keep up to date on the bills status. Read LB456.
